Emmitt Smith Returns to Florida Gators as Offensive Coordinator

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators have made a historic hire, announcing that legendary running back Emmitt Smith will return to the program as their new offensive coordinator. The move brings one of the school’s most celebrated alumni back to Gainesville, this time as a key member of the coaching staff.

Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher and a Pro Football Hall of Famer, is best known for his record-breaking career with the Dallas Cowboys, where he won three Super Bowls. However, before his professional success, Smith was a dominant force for the Gators from 1987 to 1989, earning All-American honors and setting numerous school rushing records.

“I’m honored and excited to be coming home to Florida,” Smith said in a statement. “The Gators gave me my start, and now it’s my turn to give back. I’m ready to bring my passion and knowledge of the game to this team.”

The decision to bring in Smith comes after the departure of former offensive coordinator Rob Sale, who took a position in the NFL. Head coach Billy Napier expressed confidence in Smith’s ability to revitalize the Gators’ offense.
