Due to an undisclosed injury, offensive lineman Jalen Rivers did not participate in the Miami Hurricanes’ 56-9 thrashing of Florida A&M on Saturday. However, head coach Mario Cristobal stated he does not think the team’s starting left tackle will be sidelined for an extended period of time. Rivers, a fifth-year junior, was described as “a little bit banged up” by Cristobal during the postgame, but he did not believe the injury to be “too serious.”
During his weekly appearance on WQAM’s “The Joe Rose Show,” he restated same ideas on Monday morning. Cristobal remarked, “He really is day-to-day.” Although his contract is not particularly significant, we will take good care of him and make sure he is prepared for his game. We’re almost there. There won’t be a significant delay. That may or may not imply that Rivers will play when the No. 10 Hurricanes (2-0) visit Ball State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

With Miami, Rivers has appeared in 31 games overall, starting 22 of them. He was on the All-ACC second team the previous year. Markell Bell began at left tackle against the Rattlers in lieu of Rivers, who was out due to injury. Matt McCoy, center Zach Carpenter, right guard Anez Cooper, and right tackle Francisco Mauigoa made up the offensive line. Before Cristobal switched to his second team offense late in the third quarter of Miami’s lopsided victory, the
five had participated in all 49 of the team’s offensive plays on Saturday. FRESHMAN CLASS IMPACT One advantage of the Hurricanes’ dominating victory on Saturday was that Cristobal provided numerous younger players with crucial game experience.
