James Peatling has requested a trade away from GWS after speculation had been mounting that the Western Bulldogs had shown an interest in snapping up the out-of-contract midfielder.

The Giants snapped the Sydneysider up with the eighth pick of the 2021 AFL Mid-season draft, and he has since gone on to become a big asset to the club and simultaneously attracting interest from rival sides around the AFL.

It had appeared that both of the Bulldogs and Collingwood had been keen to snap the 24-year-old up.

Fox Footy have also reported that GWS had intended on tying him down on a long-term deal, but it appears Peatling is keen to venture to pastures new.

In a big twist to his contract saga, GWS released a statement regarding Peatling’s future on their club website, writing: ‘Giants midfielder James Peatling has informed the club he wishes to be traded to the Adelaide Crows.’

It comes as the Crows currently hold picks 4, 25, 42 and 60 in the national draft.

And it appears they are looking to tie Peatling down on a four-year deal, according to Channel Nine’s Tom Morris, on the proviso that a deal can be agreed.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fine season in the Giants’ midfield, kicking seven goals and regestering an average of 5.1 tackles across the 19 games he’s featured in this season.

The news comes after Peatling had told SEN that extension negotiations with GWS were ‘trending in the right direction’.
