There was no stopping Swiatek as she reached the semi-finals in San Diego and continued her impressive year.

The win was also Swiatek’s fourth consecutive victory over Gauff, proving that the Pole is dominating those who are coming from her generation of players.

After the match the world number one praised her focus and spoke about the challenge of jet lag having reached the final in Ostrava last week, “I just kept my focus and I’m happy that I stayed composed tonight,” Swiatek was quoted by Tennis365 as saying.

“It was one of those matches where I felt in control from the first point. I just wanted to be really efficient. I’m feeling better, every day is a new day to get some experience on these courts. The jet lag is getting better, and staying up tonight will help me fight it.”

Next for Swiatek in the semi-finals will be fellow WTA Finals qualifier, Jessica Pegula with the American advancing with victory over Madison Keys.

Pegula’s 6-4 7-5 victory over her compatriot is just one of many wins proving the American’s consistency at WTA level.

Speaking ahead of her clash with the world number one, Pegula said she knows what to expect and is looking forward to the challenge, “I’ve played [Swiatek] so often that I kind of know what to expect,” Pegula told the WTA website.
