Ronnie Harrison was cut at the end of the preseason by the Indianapolis Colts, who had him play a different position the previous year. Harrison was cut by the Colts on Sunday at the conclusion of the preseason after the team had once again shifted his position.

In order to reduce the number of players on the active roster from the preseason cap of 90 to the regular season limit of 53, five NFL teams made their first cuts public on Sunday. By 3 p.m., all NFL teams had to be down to 53. CDT Tuesday, and the NFL’s daily transactions report states that 17 players were released on Sunday and 41 players were waived.

The Jacksonville Jaguars waived wide receiver Seth Williams (Paul Bryant, Auburn), and the New York Giants waived linebacker Trey Kiser (South Alabama) on Sunday, while Indianapolis released Harrison, a former star player from Alabama.

Harrison was out of football last season after playing 67 games as an NFL strong safety. He was signed by the Colts halfway through training camp to play linebacker.

Harrison was cut loose after the conclusion of the 2023 preseason, but the Colts re-instated him into their practice squad, and on November 21 he became a part of the team’s active roster. In seven games, he produced 20 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions—one of which he returned 36 yards for a touchdown on December 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Harrison re-signed with Indianapolis on March 14 and practiced at free safety during training camp. Harrison played 35 special teams plays and 68 defensive snaps during the Colts’ three preseason games. He finished with five tackles on defense, three special teams tackles, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit.
