Naomi Osaka Says She Couldn’t Be More Proud of Herself, Despite U.S. Open Loss
“I gave birth to such an amazing human and I played the U.S. Open? A win is a win,” she said in a candid post.

Naomi Osaka made her return to the U.S. Open this week, unveiling a number of head-turning ensembles inspired by her Japanese heritage. Despite being eliminated in the second round of the event, Osaka admitted in a vulnerable Instagram post that she “couldn’t be more proud” of herself.

“Honestly I had typed out a whole caption about how I’m disappointed with myself etc but I’ve been sitting here playing with my daughter and I realized that I couldn’t be more proud of myself,” Osaka captioned her post on Saturday, three days after she lost to Czech opponent Karolína Muchová. “I gave birth to such an amazing human and I played the U.S. Open? A win is a win. Sure it didn’t work out this time but I have faith it will eventually. Thank you NY  see you next time.”

Osaka’s post included photos of her custom Nike ensemble, created in collaboration with Ambush designer Yoon Ahn. The elaborate outfit consisted of a black bomber jacket with a large white box affixed to the back, paired with a removable black tutu skirt with white tulle. Underneath, the tennis player wore a black tennis dress, which came complete with a ruffled skirt and large white bow. A pair of black Nike sneakers, also decorated with white bows, finished off her look.

For her first game of the tournament, Osaka had shown off a vivid green version of the same ensemble, and she seemed to reference her on-court style in her Instagram post. She ended her photo roundup with a video of Rihanna saying, “I remember thinking, ‘She could beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit.’ ”
