Las Vegas — A Las Vegas BMX track is dealing with the repercussions of burglars getting into its storage facility and stealing multiple things from the community track.

According to the head of the organization that runs Nellis BMX, the suspects not only stole bikes that were freely available to anyone interested in learning how to ride, but they also stole something precious from the community.

“They broke in, they took most of the bikes and some of the equipment and everything,” according to John Diaz.

Last week, Diaz stated that volunteers with the organization discovered the ‘Dog House’ where the group stored its equipment to be broken into.

Diaz stated that approximately $17,000 worth of equipment was removed.

“It sucks because we try our hardest to get as many new riders out, but it’s nearly impossible to get new kids out here who don’t have bikes at home and want to come ride,” said Chris Evans, an instructor at Nellis BMX.

“That is why we have the loner bikes there so that new kids can come out, ride the track, and come out and have a good time but without them, it’s kind of hard,” Evans said me.

Thankfully, the nonprofit’s GoFundMeis more than halfway to its goal of $15,000.

The group said the plan is to use the money raised to replace the bikes and equipment needed to maintain the track.
