Nebraska didn’t just suffer a heartbreaking loss to Iowa on Friday night, the program legitimately made a fool of itself in primetime.
Prior to kickoff between these two rivals, Nebraska players refused to shake hands with Iowa’s captains. That didn’t sit well with Hawkeyes linebacker Jay Higgins, who called out the Cornhuskers during his media availability after the game. He said, “The first series, we were on their sideline, and I got a little close to their head coach and I said, ‘Probably wasn’t a good idea to not shake our hands.'”
Higgins also said that Rhule walked through Iowa’s pregame warm-ups in an attempt to rattle them. Clearly, that didn’t work.
“Kirk Ferentz — would he ever do something like that? No. Be a Hawk. You see the difference,” Higgins added.
Unsurprisingly, college football fans are siding with Iowa in this dispute.
“They kind of deserved this- Rhule should be WAY better than this- classless and I have been a fan since 1970,” a Nebraska fan said.
“I’ve always liked Rhule. But tonight he came across as a classless,” another fan wrote.
“Rhule showed Iowa complete disrespect before the game by refusing to shake Iowa players hands. What a classless fraudulent coach,” a third fan tweeted.
It was an improbable win for Iowa considering Nebraska had more total yards, converted more third-down plays and dominated time of possession.
With the win over Nebraska on Friday night, Iowa improved to 8-4 on the season. Rhule’s squad, meanwhile, dropped to 6-6.
