Late Pa Adebayo Faleti was born 26 December 1930  and He was the African for work as a newscaster, Africa’s first stage play director, Africa’s first film editor and librarian with Africa’s first television station (WNTV/WNBS), Nigeria’s first Yoruba television and radio presenter, as well as a Nigerian poet, journalist, writer, Nollywood film director, and actor. He was also a Yoruba translator, broadcaster, and television pioneer, as well as the founder of Western Nigeria Television (WNTV), which is now known as the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Faleti was born in Agbo-Oye, Oyo State, but raised in Obananko, Kuranga, a town near Oyo State. He is the first son of his father, Joseph Akanbi Faleti, and the only child of his mother, Durowade Ayinke Faleti.

Alagba Faleti has had a lifelong interest in drama since he was a child. Unfortunately, his parents were unable to fund his education to pursue his dreams due to a lack of funds, so he decided to postpone his primary education. He then formed his own successful theater group, Oyo Youth Operatic Society, with a few interested coworkers (founded in 1949).

Faleti eventually returned to school by working in a primary school for six years to earn enough money for his secondary education with the help of his father’s financial support. In 1966, he received a Certificate of Proficiency in French Language and Civilization from the University of Dakar in Senegal.

He earned an honors degree in Lit-in-English from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria two years later. In 1971, he graduated from the Radio Netherlands Training Center in Hilversum, the Netherlands, with a certificate in television production.

Faleti has written, produced, and performed in several well-known Yoruba plays. His poetry is also well-known. He was the first teacher at Ife Odan, near Ejigbo Town in Osun State. He also served as General Manager of the Oyo State Broadcasting Corporation (BCOS), also known as Radio OYO, Ibadan. In 1959, he began working as a film editor and librarian at Western Nigerian Television (WNTV), now known as NTA Ibadan.

Pa Faleti wrote and produced several popular films, including Magun, Thunderbolt, Basorun Gaa, and Afonja. He was honored both locally and internationally.

In 1995, he received the Festival of Arts award, and in 2002, he received the Afro-Hollywood Award for Outstanding Performance in the Arts in the United States, as well as the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

Basorun Gaa was recognized as the best epic film of the year at the Breeze Awards in London in 2004.

Adebayo Faleti was a true inspiration to many Nigerians. Many people from the 1990s will remember him as the wise old man in the film Saworoide.

Faleti had two wives, one of whom had died after more than 35 years of marriage to him. Mrs. Olubunmi Faleti works for the Nigerian Television Authority as a television personnel. Faleti’s first wife was Mrs Moteniola Faleti, a retired nurse from Ibadan’s University College Hospital. Faleti can have up to 15 children. His first child is Mrs Adebola Orunsolu (née Faleti), and his last is Adesiyan Olamilekansi Faleti.
