Elena Rybakina has gotten behind the wheel and started taking driving lessons as the Kazakh tennis star may soon be able to drive the Porsche supercar she won a couple of months ago.
If you remember well, there was a bit funny situation during the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart in April. Usually, the winner there also collects the latest Porsche and gets to drive a lap around the court. In this case, it was a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.
But after ousting Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-2, Rybakina wasn’t able to fulfill the tradition since she didn’t have a driver’s license. Instead, the 25-year-old got into the car and sat on the passenger seat while one of the tournament representatives took her for a lap.
However, not that the 2024 season is over, the 2022 Wimbledon champion hit up a driving school in Dubai.
“I just joined Galadari driving school and really happy to join and practice. I have a very strict instructor. But it is very nice experience and looking forward to my exam tomorrow,” Rybakina said in an Instagram video uploaded by the driving school.
Rybakina vowed to get a driver’s license after landing a Porsche supercar
After seeing the car that came also came as a prize for her Stuttgart win, the 25-year-old admitted that she didn’t a license to drive it but added that the new car was a motivating factor to soon get one.
“I actually don’t have a driver’s license. So it’s gonna be the goal, of course. I mean, I want it already for a long time, so that’s a good motivation,” the world No. 6 said following her Stuttgart triumh.
At the time, Rybakina also noted that being limited with time due to life on the Tour was the reason why she didn’t have a driver’s license yet.
“I wanted to do it already long time, but I never have chance to be at one place for long. I did already couple of lessons. I was driving, but yeah, for sure that’s the goal for this year outside of the court. And with this car, if I win, it’s going to be one double goal. Hopefully I finish it this year,” she said.
