Jay Stansfield: Birmingham City completes League One record deal to sign striker from Fulham
Jay Stansfield scored 13 goals in 37 games during a loan stay at Birmingham City last season, earning him the club’s player of the season award; Stansfield, 21, scored against Birmingham in midweek in Fulham’s 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup second round.
Birmingham City smashed the League One transfer record by paying more than £15 million for striker Jay Stansfield from Fulham.
Birmingham had previously broken the League One incoming transfer record twice during this transfer window before signing Stansfield.
Sky Sports News understands it is an initial £15 million, although sources in Birmingham suggest it is less.
Christoph Klarer & Willum Thor Willumsson was signed for around £3.5 million, but the Stansfield move far exceeds both of those figures.
The 21-year-old became a fan favourite after spending last season on loan at Birmingham City.
He scored 13 goals in 37 games for St Andrew’s, earning the club’s player-of-the-season accolade.
Stansfield scored in Fulham’s 2-0 Carabao Cup second-round victory over Birmingham in midweek.
