After two blowout wins, Miami Hurricanes top 10 in AP poll for first time in four years
The Miami Hurricanes are a top-10 team in college football. After dominant wins over the Florida Gators (41-17) and Florida A&M (56-9) to begin the 2024 season along with some top teams stumbling early, the Hurricanes checked in at No. 10 in the latest edition of the AP top 25 poll on Sunday.
It’s Miami’s first time being ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll since the week of Dec. 6, 2020 — Miami’s third consecutive week at No. 9. The Hurricanes peaked at No. 7 that season. Miami began the season ranked No. 19 and moved up seven spots to No. 12 after their season-opening win over the Gators. UM’s two-spot bump in the rankings this week was aided by a pair of top-10 teams losing on Saturday, with Michigan getting pummeled 31-12 at home against Texas and Notre Dame getting upset by Northern Illinois 16-14. Notre Dame fell from No. 5 to No. 18. Michigan fell from No. 10 to No. 17.
The rest of the top 10: No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 6 Missouri, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 8 Penn State and No. 9 Oregon. That’s six Southeastern Conference teams, three Big Ten teams and Miami from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC overall has four representatives, with No. 19 Louisville, No. 22 Clemson and No. 24 Boston College also in the top 25.
Miami continues its season on Saturday against Ball State (1-0). Kickoff from Hard Rock Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
