Football at Nebraska adds LB Christian Jones, the state’s top prospect for the 2025 class
Following his visits to Memorial Stadium for the first two games of the season, Christian Jones, a four-star linebacker out of Omaha Westside and the top-ranked prospect in the state of Nebraska in the Class of 2025, made his commitment to the Huskers.
Jones considered offers from USC, Auburn, Iowa, Notre Dame, and other schools, but ultimately chose Nebraska over Oklahoma. According to 247Sports Composite, he is the 19th-best linebacker and the nation’s No. 161 prospect.
Playing for the two-time defending Class A champion in Nebraska, Jones is 6 feet 2 and weighs 215 pounds. The Huskers’ roster includes former Westside teammates Preston Okafor, Jaylen Lloyd, Caleb Benning, and Tristan Alvano.
In the 1990s, Dave Jones, the father of Jones, was a player at Nebraska.
The younger Jones, who decided to postpone his decision until after watching the first few games of this NCAA season, was engaged in a protracted recruitment war between the Huskers and the Sooners.
Nebraska defeated Colorado 28-10 on Saturday to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2019. In two games, the Huskers have given up two touchdowns.
Along with defensive lineman Tyson Terry of Omaha North, athlete Jackson Carpenter of Lincoln Southwest, athlete Pierce Mooberry and safety Caden VerMaas of Millard North in Omaha, and athlete Conor Booth of Wahoo Bishop Neumann, Jones is the 19th member of Nebraska’s Class of 2025 and the sixth from a Nebraska high school.
Jones gives Nebraska a linebacker that was lacking. He is this class’s first player at the position to commit. Linebacker seniors John Bullock and MJ Sherman are expected to depart the Huskers, as will likely Javin Wright, who is listed as a senior but has had multiple injuries and health problems throughout his career.
