The first game as Liverpool’s head coach ended in loss for Arne Slot on Saturday as Nottingham Forest came to Anfield. The home team’s flawless start to the season came to an end when Callum Hudson-Odoi’s goal in the second half separated the two teams.
The hosts had possession and completed twice as many passes as their opponents, but they were uninspired in the last third and lost meaninglessly. After the game, the players’ frustration was evident.
Among them was Alisson, who was displeased with the strategies rival manager Nuno Espirito Santo used during the game. Though he praised Forest for following out their intentions, he implied that Liverpool had been the only team that intended to attack.
The Brazilian goalkeeper did not hold back his honest thoughts when speaking to the media post-match. He branded the defeat as ‘unnecessary’.
The 31-year-old said: “It was a shame, losing points at home is not good at all but the opponent today only wanted to defend and play for the long ball. We gave them that too easily when they scored, it was poor defensively from us. We couldn’t create much, we had a lack of quality today, we needed more energy.
“It is three points we have lost today unnecessarily. All the opportunities we had were not clear enough and they defended great, they threw themselves in front of the ball.”
