sad news: San Francisco Giants key player confirm major injury

Injuries & Moves: Harrison to IL with shoulder inflammation

Sept. 6: LHP Kyle Harrison placed on 15-day injured list; RHP Austin Warren recalled from Triple-A Sacramento
An MRI on Thursday revealed Harrison has mild left shoulder inflammation. Considering where the season’s calendar is and that Harrison has thrown a career-high 124 1/3 innings, Giants manager Bob Melvin said there’s a possibility the lefty won’t pitch again this year.

“To ramp him back up, I don’t know for sure,’’ Melvin said.

After winning four of his first five decisions to begin the year, Harrison has a 7.76 ERA over his past six starts.

“At times, he has performed really well,’’ Melvin said. “Other times, he’s been hit around. But he hasn’t shied away from anything. I think overall it’s a successful season for him. He learned how to deal with pitching every fifth day, and I think he will be better for it next year.”

Warren was promoted for his second tour with the Giants this year. His one appearance was Aug. 28 at Milwaukee, and he delivered two scoreless innings of relief. Warren had Tommy John surgery in May 2023 and was released by the Angels just before Spring Training this year. He had a 4.91 ERA in 23 Triple-A appearances at Triple-A after returning to action in June.

Giants injuries and roster moves

Sept. 4: 3B Matt Chapman signed to six-year, $151 million contract extension
Chapman was slated to start at third base and bat cleanup against Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen on Wednesday, but he was scratched about an hour before first pitch to undergo a physical. His new deal will keep him San Francisco through the 2030 season and net him a $25 million salary in each of the next six seasons. He’ll also receive a $1 million signing bonus next year.
