TRACK IS NAMED AFTER SHA’CARRI RICHARDSON’S FORMER HIGH SCHOOL: “I STARTED MY CAREER ON THIS TRACK.”

‘Where I come from continues to support me no matter how far I go.’

Olympic track and field athlete Sha’Carri Richardson was greeted with heroism on September 20 at Dallas Carter High School, her high school alma mater in the Dallas ISD. During halftime of Dallas Carter’s football game versus Wilmer-Hutchins, Richardson was present to see the unveiling of new signage at the school’s track complex that bore her name.

The track at Kincaide Stadium has Richardson’s name written on it in bold white letters, along with a plaque detailing her life story and her many track and field achievements, according to Kens5, a Dallas CBS affiliate. The track is a component of Dallas Carter High School’s Jesse Owens Athletic Complex and is situated one mile south of the school.

Richardson remains proud to be an alumna of the Dallas Independent School District, and a Dallas native as she shared with the crowd on hand.

“On this track, I ran. Richardson remarked, “I can say that I started my career on this track.” It is an honor to have it named after me now. However, it demonstrates my obligation to Dallas. I never lose support from my roots, no matter how far I travel. Furthermore, I promise to never, ever allow anyone to forget my origins.
“That’s Dallas, and that’s where I get my heart,” Richardson went on. I get my attitude from there, and it’s also where I get my happiness. I will continue to do a great job representing. As long as you guys never stop showing me the love that you all have always shown me.
Richardson, who placed first in the 4×100-meter relay and second in the 100-meter dash at the Olympic Games in Paris, was Dallas Carter’s top-ranked class of 2018 high school sprinter before to enrolling at Louisiana State University. Richardson made her professional debut in 2019 after catching the attention of USA Track and Field
during her freshman year at LSU, when she broke several records.

The track was first called after the 24-year-old Richardson in 2023, according to NBC Sports. Naming the track after some of the school’s most well-known alums serves “as a tribute to Richardson’s remarkable achievements in sports and significant ties to the Dallas community,” according to the district website.
