The nominees for the World Athletics Women’s Athlete of the Year has been announced, featuring Julien Alfred, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Faith Kipyegon.
Paris Olympic champions Julien Alfred, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Faith Kipyegon have been selected in a tough women’s list for the World Athletics Track Athlete of the Year.
According to the World Athletics, the nominees reflect some of the standout performances achieved at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, World Athletics Indoor Championships, one-day meeting circuits, and other events worldwide.
Alfred made history in Paris by becoming Saint Lucia’s first Olympic champion in history as well as scooping the world 60m indoor and Diamond League titles.
Saint Lucia’s golden girl Julien Alfred has been recognised with the highest sports honour in the Caribbean by winning two titles at the inaugural CANOC Sports Awards.
The awards which took place in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, had the best sports talents in the region honoured for their exploits in the 2024 season.
Top on the list is Alfred, who was named the Caribbean Female Sports Personality of the Year for becoming the World Indoors 60m champion, Olympic 100m champion, and Wanda Diamond League 100m champion. The 24-year-old is the top-ranked female athlete from the Caribbean and was the only nominee with three titles in 2024.

The other finalists were Olympic 400m champion Marileidy Paulino (Dominican Republic) and former 100m hurdles Olympic gold medallist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico).
Alfred also shared the Breakthrough Award with triple jumper Thea LaFond (Commonwealth of Dominica). This award honoured athletes who earned their first medals in continental or international multi-sport competitions. In addition, she won the World Indoors and Olympic gold medal in Paris.
