shredded, and who could blame him? However, the 35-year-old’s motivation to get in shape is far more sensible: Reynolds had very austere diet growing up, but in his early 20s, he began to experience severe autoimmune illnesses. He claims that he has only grown stricter.

GQ: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also referred to as the Mormon Church, is where you grew up. What impact did that have on your childhood diet?

 

Dan Reynolds: My diet growing up was very conservative. We ate meat sparingly, and typically it was moderation in everything, but clean, regimented. No smoking, no drugs, anything like that. A conservative, Christian upbringing, in that regard, but you throw in coffee, too.
