In the US Open’s opening round, which begins on Monday, August 26 and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, Emma Raducanu of Britain will take on Sofia Kenin, another past grand slam champion.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open winner, is probably going to have a difficult start at Flushing Meadows. Should she triumph over Kenin, she will probably face world No. 6 Jessica Pegula in the second round.
With Andy Murray’s retirement, British tennis has a new landscape. Since this is the first grand slam since the Scot decided to end his career, Jack Draper, Katie Boulter, and Raducanu will now be the main subjects of attention.
Having advanced to the fourth round of the previous year’s US hard court tournament, Draper is ranked highly in the men’s draw. In his debut match, he faces Zhizhen Zhang of China.
In the third round, if the British player advances, he probably faces Carlos Alcaraz, the winner of the Wimbledon and French Opens.
The top-seeded British woman, Boulter, will start her campaign against a qualifier. Given that they would face one other in the third round if they both win their first two matches, she and Raducanu might be headed for a collision.
