QB Jacoby Brissett of the New England Patriots stated he would be well with a shoulder injury sustained in the team’s season finale.

It’s excellent. Brissett said on Tuesday, “I believe it was more of like a precautionary measure,” on WEEI’s Afternoon Show. The fact that I hadn’t been hit in eight months kind of astonished me more than anything. I’m doing fine. I’m enthusiastic, ready for the season.

“I feel absolutely fine,” he continued.

Head coach Jerod Mayo stated before the game that Brissett was only expected to play one or two series. Due to those precautionary steps, the veteran only participated in one series after taking a hard hit on a first-down sack. Mayo revealed after the game that Brissett might have carried on if necessary.

Brissett’s injury put an end to a disappointing preseason in which he completed only 5-of-14 passes for 36 yards and one interception, failing to lead a scoring drive.

But while Brissett views the preseason numbers with a grain of salt, he begins the regular season buoyed by his body of work through the summer.

According to Brissett, “I wouldn’t say that the preseason was a definite reflection of what the training camp and OTA practices have been.” “So, sure, the preseason was, call it, mediocre at best. However, as I previously stated, it didn’t feel like a reflection of my performance or of practice.

So far as practice and such go, I’m happy with what I captured on camera. You obviously want to return for a few preseason games.

The Patriots have to select between youngster Drake Maye or Brissett as their opening-week starter as they get ready for the regular season. According to Jerod Mayo’s Monday statement, the team will probably be informed of the decision after Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET roster cuts.

Brissett has been playing as if he will be under center against the Cincinnati Bengals in two weeks, even hours before that deadline.
